What does solar actually cost?
Anyone quoting a flat price before seeing your roof is guessing. Here is what moves the number, what comes off it, and how to get a real figure for your place, fixed, in writing, within 48 hours.
Four things move the number.
Between them these account for most of the gap between two quotes on the same street. All four are checked at the assessment and written into your quote, never sprung on you as a variation on install day.
How much power you actually use
The single biggest factor. We read twelve months of your interval data before quoting, because a household using 22 kWh a day with a 4pm peak needs a very different system from one using the same total overnight, and we would rather quote you a smaller system than sell you a bigger one you never use.
What your roof is made of
Tile costs a few hundred more than Colorbond, every mounting point means lifting a tile, flashing a bracket and re-seating it. Two storeys, a steep pitch, or a multi-pitch Queenslander all add time on the roof.
Your switchboard
An upgrade runs $400–$1,200. Common on anything pre-2000, and non-negotiable if the board can't take the inverter.
Whether you add storage
A battery is usually the largest single line on a quote. Worth it for some households, not yet for others. We will tell you which you are.
What doesn't change it
Our price doesn't move because you asked twice, or because it's the end of the month.
Also worth knowing: long cable runs to a detached switchboard, and asbestos-clad eaves requiring a licensed handler, both add cost. We identify these at the assessment, they go in the quote, not on the invoice afterwards.
What the government actually pays for.
Three separate schemes get confused constantly. Here is how each one works in Queensland, and which of them we handle for you.
STCs (solar)
A federal certificate scheme. On a 10 kW Brisbane system it is worth roughly $3,000, and it comes off the invoice up front. You never see a form.

Cheaper Home Batteries
The federal battery discount, worth roughly 30% off an installed battery. Applied at point of sale by an accredited installer, and it steps down each year.
We handle it. Battery prices quoted are net of the discount.
Feed-in tariff
Not a rebate. It is what your retailer pays for exported power. In South East Queensland it is market-set and currently sits near 5c/kWh. Worth shopping around for.
Your retailer sets it. We will tell you who is paying best.
Rebate values change annually and with your postcode. Figures above are indicative for Brisbane in 2026. Your quote will carry the exact amount that applies on the day.
Small commercial is quoted, not packaged.
Why there is no commercial price list
Even up to 30 kW the variables that drive cost, roof structure, switchboard capacity, export limits, tariff and working around your trading hours, swing the number too much for a table to be honest. Anyone publishing a flat commercial rate is guessing.
What we will commit to: a written proposal within five business days of a site visit, with modelled production, payback, and the depreciation position spelled out.
What a commercial proposal includes
- Half-hourly load analysis from your retailer data
- Daytime consumption modelled against your actual trading hours
- Structural assessment and, where required, an engineer's certificate
- Fixed price, staged payment schedule, defined install window
